Fire Hydrants & Valves



It is located around the building. It is a 2 ½” spigot and gives a flow of 250 gpm, or 946 liters / min, and a pressure of 4.5 bar.

* It serves as a second line of defense as it is filled with water all the time as it is connected to the main network. So that if the process of extinguishing the fire from the inside fails, the firefighter comes and connects to this pipe and tries to extinguish the fire from outside the building.
Height of external fire hydrant:

The height of fire hydrants ranges from a minimum of 18″ and a maximum of 36″.

Valves that are installed on the line of external fire hydrants:

A gate valve is installed and the connection between the gate valve and the pipe is done by a flange

Permissible height of the center of the existing fire hydrant from the ground:

From 45:75 cm above ground level

The number of external fire hydrants and the distances between them from use to the following risks:

1- Light (residential areas)

2- Medium (commercial areas)

3- Al-Alia (industrial and storage areas)

1- Number of nozzles = 1, distance = 100-150, use time 30 minutes.

2- Number of nozzles = 2, distance = 75-100, use time 60 minutes

3- Number of nozzles = 4, distance = 60-75, use time 90 minutes

The distance of the fire hydrant line from the building to be protected from fire

External fire hydrants shall be installed at least 40 feet (12.2 meters) from the building
